Growing up, my brothers and I had cereal every single morning before school. My all-time faves were Honey Nut Cheerios and the cool Chex flavors including Cinnamon and Vanilla. Now, I always like jazzing up my parfaits with a flavorful crunch such as in my Pumpkin Spice and Apple Cinnamon Parfait with Cinnamon Chex. Chex were definitely a hit in the Doser household growing up and they still are. Heck, my dad has had Corn Chex or Rice Chex cereal every single morning for breakfast probably before I even came out of the womb! They’re a household staple!
Well, after 15 years, General Mills has come out with a new cereal brand called Tiny Toast. Listen up: this toast may be tiny, but dang, the flavor is freakin’ out of this world good! They kind of remind me of a remix between the size and sprinkled look of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and the natural flavor and sweetness level of Apple Cinnamon Cheerios.
During the last 25 years, General Mills has launched dozens of new cereals but those cereals were only launched via extensions of existing brands. Thus, Tiny Toast is now feeling the stardom, folks. And let me tell you, these cute little pieces of joy are just simply irresistible….the second I opened up both boxes of strawberry and blueberry (simultaneously might I add, because I couldn’t decide which one to try first), I could not control my hand from diving into each box every five seconds. These mini toasted delights are addicting. Proceed with caution unless you plan to eat at least 5 handfuls.
Anyways, I could have quite easily eaten the Tiny Toasts out of the cute little cereal bowl with miniature spoon that General Mills sent me, while (might I add) wearing the Tiny Toasts shirt that was in my lovely gift box….but then I came to thinking, why not whip up a cool dessert for my Fourth of July get-together tonight?
Thus, I present to you, Tiny Toast Cake Ball Truffles. Perfect for the kids, or in my case, 20-some year old young adults but hey, who doesn’t like truffles? Happy Fourth, y’all!
Tiny Toast Cake Ball Truffles
- 1.5 cup Tiny Toast Strawberry Cereal
- 1.5 cup Tiny Toast Blueberry Cereal
- 8 oz softened cream cheese
- 1 bag white chocolate chips
- 2 tsp vegetable oil
In a blender, blend each flavor of Tiny Toast cereal to measure out 1.5 cups of each flavor when crushed. Separate into two different bowls.
In each bowl, combine 1 1/4 cup crushed cereal with half a block of softened cream cheese. Save the rest of the crushed cereal of each flavor for sprinkling.
Roll mixture into 2 tsp-sized balls. Place on parchment paper-lined baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes.
Melt chocolate chips and oil in the microwave in 30 second intervals, mixing between and being careful not to burn the chocolate.
Remove the balls from the freeze and coat in melted chocolate. Split the melted chocolate evenly between three bowls. Add red food coloring to one bowl and blue food coloring to another bowl. Dip each ball in various colors and place back on lined sheet.
Top with the remaining crushed cereal and set for 15 minutes until hardened. Sprinkle with leftover crushed cereal. Bon appétit!
