Nobody even says, “That place is radical, dude” anymore….but hey, I just did. It seemed fitting in order to describe this gorgeous restaurant in Georgetown with a warm, rustic vibe among good company. The culinary team at Blue Duck Tavern is very passionate about sourcing fresh, seasonal ingredients from regional farms to update their menus on occasion. The ever-changing summer menu is unlike any breakfast menu I have ever seen, with such an array of delicious choices. It was hard to decide on just one thing, therefore, my guests and I simply ordered most, if not all, items on the menu. Seems just about right for a breakfast with Bex.
To start off our lovely summer breakfast, Blue Duck Tavern offers amazing fresh fruit and vegetable juices. The pomegranate-orange juice was a delightful choice.
First, we ordered the warm pecan sticky buns. These always remind me of growing up as a kid and salivating during Sunday mass (while occasionally dozing off…sorry, mom) in anticipation of the cinnamon buns that my mom would make for family brunch. No one will ever make cinnamon buns like her but I’ll let you in on a little secret: my next post will include an at-home version of Blue Duck Tavern’s sticky buns by Chef Collier. Stay tuned!
Next up was one of my favorite dishes: Blueberry Pancakes with Cheesecake Mousse, Mint, and Graham Cracker Crumble. Talk about an outstanding combination right there and a picture perfect one at that!
When Heather Freeman told me that this Anson Farms White Polenta with Onion Compote was one of her favorites, I was waiting with anticipation to see what she was talking about. The flavor in this dish is crazy good. At this point, I was pretty thankful I had squeezed in my morning run because the rich breakfast dishes just kept on coming…
Now, I am a raving fanatic of sweet potato fries. They are simply the best. But for breakfast, these Hand-Cut BDT Fries win without a doubt. The sauce has a perfect kick to it and they are a must-have if you want a more savory than sweet appetizer.
Ah, and one of their top dishes for breakfast has arrived: Short Rib Hash with a Sunny Side Up Egg and Horseradish Sauce. This short rib hash, though. I was speechless. So flavorful and moist… (man, I hate that word).
The Open Faced Breakfast Sandwich with Pork Belly, Sunny Egg, Pickled Vegetables, Jalapeño, and Cilantro on a Soft Roll (that’s a mouth full) was surprisingly an amazing combination of flavors. I love a nice kick to my food and between the pickled veggies, jalapeño and cilantro, the toppings on this soft roll were wicked good. My only wish was that the base of this dish was something other than a plain soft roll.
Let’s talk about some color, folks. Look at this beauty! The BDT Benedict with Rock Shrimp, Cabbage, Corn Cake, Red Onion Relish, and Chipotle Hollandaise is gorgeous inside and out. Seriously. I could just gaze at it. But nah….who am I kidding, come to mama!
And to top off an amazing breakfast, why not enjoy some fresh seasonal fruit and the Belgian Waffle with Creme Brulee, Roasted Peach and Basil!?
The filling in this waffle was too die for. I was savoring it all the way home! I sure do know where I will be taking my parents for a meal when they come to visit in a few weeks!
